How to Overcome Mental Fatigue

Sometimes you need to push through mental fatigue to meet a deadline or complete a project --- or just get through your daily routine. The stress can cause your brain to shut down, making you feel tired and lethargic. Caffeinated drinks might be helpful to some people, but there are other ways to break through mental fatigue. Depending on whether you are at a workplace or at home, there are antidotes to mental fatigue.

Exercise with a brisk walk, or ride a bike, says holothink.org. Exercising increases the blood flow to the brain, and you will feel more alert and awake.

Inhale peppermint essential oil for a quick pick-me-up, advised the "LaCrosse Tribune." Place a few drops of oil on a cloth handkerchief, and breathe in the smell to rejuvenate your mind.

Stand outside in the sunlight for 15 minutes, says the "LaCrosse Tribune." Enjoy the fresh air while doing some deep breathing.

Stand up and move your arms and legs. Bounce on the balls of your feet for two or more minutes. Drop your arms to your side, then raise and lower to shoulder height for two or more minutes, says the "LaCrosse Tribune."

Take a 15-minute power nap if possible. Power naps provide quick relief to mental fatigue because a short nap provides a fast energy and mental boost.
